Book Talk on Library of Sinology [CANCELLED]

The Library of Sinology, a new book series initiated by the Jao Tsung-I Academy, HKBU, responds to a revival of interest in the study of Chinese cultures during the twenty-first-century as a wealth of manuscript texts on bamboo and silk are being discovered like never before. New materials are emerging which promise to transform fields as diverse as classical philology and anthropology, philosophy and art history, linguistics and religious studies, literature and archaeology. By promoting interdisciplinary research in classical Chinese Studies and international academic exchange, the book series sets out to spearhead a transnational reconceptualization of traditional Chinese ideas and their relevance for modern times.

To enhance the visibility of our publications on the international stage, the Academy will collaborate with one of the world’s most influential academic publishers, De Gruyter, on this publishing project.

This autumn, Volume 3 and Volume 4 will be officially published:

Volume 3: Adam Craig Schwartz (史亞當), The Oracle Bone Inscriptions from Huayuanzhuang East
Translated with an Introduction and Commentary
Volume 4: Edward L. Shaughnessy (夏含夷), Chinese Annals in the Western Observatory
An Outline of Western Studies of Chinese Unearthed Documents

The Academy will therefore hold a Book Launch Event on 15 November, to unveil the new books by the two authors at our Academy. We have invited Prof. Edward L. Shaughnessy, author of Volume 4 to introduce his new book by himself, and Prof. Chen Wei, Director of the Center of Bamboo Silk Manuscripts of Wuhan University as moderator. In view of the current situation, the Academy has decided, after careful consideration and extensive discussions with our speaker, to cancel this Lecture.

Event was planned originally as follows:

Date: Friday 15 November 2019
Time: 4:00-5:30pm
