Abstract: Professor Jao has been highly concerned and supportive of the research and organization of the Mawangdui silk manuscripts. This lecture will introduce Professor Jao's research on the Mawangdui silk manuscripts, including the organization of the Zhouyi, the study of the Tianyi tu, the study of the Taiyi jiangxing tu, and his research and guidance on the art of the Mawangdui silk manuscripts.

Speaker’s Profile: Chen Songchang is a former Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial Museum and Vice-Principal of the Yuelu College of Hunan University, where he is currently a professor and supervisor of doctoral students, an expert granted special subsidy by the State Council of China, a member of the Xiling publishing house, and Director of the Hunan University research centre into documents on bamboo and silk and the Hunan University research centre for Chinese calligraphy on bamboo and silk, as well as acting as a professor of the Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole of Hong Kong University. He also has roles as an executive director of the Council of the Chinese Society of Qin and Han Dynasty Studies, a director of the Chinese Society of Palaeography, and Dean of the Nine Songs Hunan Provincial College of Calligraphy and Painting. He is an editorial advisor for journals including Jianbo yanjiu (Research into documents on bamboo and silk), Jianbo (Documents on bamboo and silk), Jianduxue yanjiu (Research into documents on bamboo and wooden slips), and Chutu wenxian (Excavated documents).

Published works number more than twenty and include Mawangdui boshu yishu (The art of books on silk of Mawangdui), Xianggang zhongwen daxue wenwuguan cangjiandu (Collected bamboo and wooden slips of the Art Museum, the Chinese University of Hong Kong), Mawangdui jianbo wenzibian (Editorial practice on books on bamboo and silk of Mawangdui), Mawangdui boshu yanjiu (Research into books on silk of Mawangdui), Hunan gudai xiyin (Ancient imperial seals of Hunan), and Zhongguo jianbo shufa yishu biannian yu yanjiu (Chronicling and research into the calligraphic art of Chinese books on bamboo and silk), and he is editor-in-chief of Yuelu shuyuan cang qinjian (yi–qi) (The Yuelu collection of Qin dynasty bamboo slips, vols. 1–7). He has also published more than 140 articles in journals representing a range of scholarly fields. In partnership with Mr Zhu Yongling, he has mounted joint calligraphic exhibitions at the Museum of Kyungpook National University in South Korea, Hamburg University Library, and the Hunan Provincial Museum.
