This special supplement is a translated volume of the English-written articles and book reviews found in the first three issues of the Bulletin of the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology (BJAS). By introducing the latest Sinological scholarship of acclaimed Sinologists and promising young researchers in a language to which Chinese readership is more accustomed, the Bulletin is expected to exert a greater influence among its readers.

A total of fourteen English articles and book reviews published in Issue Nos. 4 to 7 of the Bulletin of the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology have been selected and translated here for the benefit of a Chinese-speaking readership. Formidable in sheer breadth and diversity, the papers cover linguistics, literary study, historiography, intellectual history, ancient Chinese phonetics, excavated bamboo strips, oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions, and cultural studies. Its book reviews examine five monographs and edited volumes in English published between 2015 and 2018, and encompass topics as wide-ranging as early Chinese religion and archeology, political polemic on excavated bamboo strips, the compilation and content of the Shangshu, metaphysical poetry in medieval literature, and historical phonology.
